The Icarus Kronikles

Friday: In the middle of constructing this web site, puddling along as time permits, and learning heaps about using Dreamweaver. I've been reading lots of books on the care and feeding of web pages, how to raise web pages for fun and profit etc etc -- but nothing in life really prepares you for the grim reality of a blank page on the screen. And of course, Dreamweaver does some things in an unexpected way, which takes time to ferret out and implement. Just another waypoint on the learning curve.
The various computers have been taking up a lot of time recently; both this main graphics computer and the internet/games computer are rather unstable and really need a good talking-to. Probably need a return to a previous Drive Image.
10:14 pm: guess what ... I was happily working in Dreamweaver and uploading changed pages to the server and things locked up tight. Reboot ... then I get a screen at 300 x 150 or so -- on a 19" monitor. Try and change resolution but no go; bluescreened out. So reboot into DOS, fire up Drive Image, uh-oh, the last image is dated 8-10-00. Which means a lot of program changes in the interim to be caught up on. BUT the beauty of it is that I am back in business after about 20 mins of reload/reboot cycles. Aaahh ... joy.

Saturday: We had the two boys last night, as Rebeccah was celebrating her 13th birthday by having a bunch of contempories sleeping over. Much talk and giggling to 2.30am, then they crashed until 10.30 this morning. We went over for a chinese takeaway tea, and returned the boys.
I worked on refining the site off-and-on during the day -- usually receiving a fusilade of shots in my right ear from whatever shootemup Ethan was playing at the time. I've just checked the site on Linley, whose 14" screen disclosed some deficiencies in the tables which hold Joan's garden pix. Got that sorted by converting widths to percents.

Sunday: Cold southerly and showers discouraged any attempt to work outside today, so spent some time in the afternoon cleaning out the garage and washing down the floor. Inside garages have a disadvantage -- the tyres track in lots of dirt, and we get huge water puddles in wet weather after the car has been out. Fortunately I had commercial grade solid-colour vinyl put down, and a good wash brings it up like new.
After some research on IHUG's site, I managed to find source HTML to install a visitor counter. We've decided to put another button on the nav bar, to be labelled "Fridge Art". This is the grandparent custom of displaying juvenile art on the fridge with magnets. Ethan is besotted with a Japanese TV cartoon series called "Dragonball Z"; he is doing interesting drawings of his favourite characters (or he might just have invented them).
