Joan's
Garden
(1999)
|
|||||
| Joan hired a consultant to advise on garden layout and submit a design. A handyman friend came to lay out the lawn circles and paving. Several trees were moved and the extra garden was covered with bark to provide mulch and keep down weeds. The magnolia just visible out from the house corner has never done well. | ![]() |

| The
next job was to have a carpenter put up a pergola for Joan to train roses
over. The trellis piece went along the side of the paving from the Pergola
to the back fence. It's turned out to be a great spot to grow courgettes
(zuccini); two plants kept us and the family going for months. This was taken in November 1999. |

| The back fence was replaced when Joan leaned on it and almost fell down a 10 foot drop. We had a mock gate put right at the end, made from old fence battens salvaged from a farm. The bark path gives access behind the trees and along the fence line. Another trellis is in place for Joan to grow runner beans up. [Nov. 1999] | ![]() |

| This was taken in the Autumn 2000 when the trees next door were turning colour. The magnolia transplanted from its unsuitable place, and is established well. The trees along the fence line have got too tall, and are waiting for the chop (or chainsaw ...) | ![]() |
