The Icarus Principle:

If you aim for the sun,
You'll get close
to the heat.
Better that your wings melt
Than never to have flown.

Welcome to the home page of The Icarus Kronikles

This web site was created by Mike Barkman.. Mike passed away in September 2004, but the web site has been kept as a memorial.

Mike used the web site to include this daily online journal about his doings, and musings about daily life in New Zealand. Mike was a member of the Daynotes Gang, who like writing about an amazing variety of things, and mostly work with computers or write computer books

The site name comes from the street that Mike and Joan used to live in — Icarus Place, in a 'city' called Rotorua (we think it's a city, anyway!). [maps and information].

The family has added a eulogy describing Mike’s life and a pictorial slide show giving the highlights in Mike’s life.

Mike was also a keen photographer, and so have a look at the slide show we have made of some his best shots. You might also like to check out the links Camera Talk and Photo Talk.

Mike was involved with the Wanganui Asthma Society, and included information on his web site to help out those who suffer from Asthma, so if your interested, please check out the information Mike posted.

As Mike said:
We bid you welcome [or haere mai in the local Maori language], and hope you'll linger a little — and at least enjoy our garden story and Mike's photo gallery.

If you're researching the Greek dude, and a search engine looking for 'Icarus' has brought you here, please don't click away — there are links to useful Icarus sites
